  • 25 September 2023 – Our work: Weiyi Xiong, Jianan Liu, Tao Huang, Qing-Long Han, Yuxuan Xia, and Bing Zhu, “LXL: LiDAR exclusive lean 3D object detection with 4D imaging radar and camera fusion,” is now accepted by IEEE Transactions on Intelligent Vehicles.

  • 27 September 2023 – We co-hosted an IEEE seminar, “Wireless Energy Harvesting and Power transfer from RF to Optical Frequencies,” today.

  • 6 September 2023 - My student Xiaowen's recent work: Xiaowen Huang, Tao Huang, Wenjie Zhang, Chair Kiat Yeo, Shuguang Zhao, and Guanglin Zhang, “Pricing optimization in MEC systems: Maximizing resource utilization through joint server configuration and dynamic operation,” is now accepted by IEEE Transactions on Mobile Computing.

  • 12 August 2023 – Our work: Jameel Ahmad, Muhammad Umer Zia, Ijaz Naqvi, Jawwad Chattha, Faran Butt, Tao Huang, and Wei Xiang,  “Machine learning and blockchain technologies for cybersecurity in connected vehicles,” is now accepted by WIREs Data Mining and Knowledge Discovery.

  • 7 Aug 2023 – Our work: Rajas Bhope, Kiran Telele, and Tao Huang, “Adaptive ambiance model for the noise cancelling headphones,” is accepted by the 2023 IEEE Industrial Electronics and Applications Conference (IEACon).

  • 30 June 2023 – Our work: Xiaobing Dang, Wei Xiang, Lei Yuan, Yuan Yang, Eric Wang, and Tao Huang, “Deep Unfolding Scheme for Grant-free Massive-access Vehicular Networks,” is accepted by IEEE Transactions on Intelligent Transportation Systems.

  • 21 June 2023 – Dr. Huang gives an invited talk on “Deep Learning-aided TR-UWB MIMO System” at the 20th Australian Communications Theory Workshop at Charles Darwin University, Darwin, Australia.

  • 29 May 2023 – Dr Huang’s application, “Smart Auto-reforestation Robot Perception System for Complex Tropical Terrain”, to CSIRO for the industry PhD program is successful. This project will be in collaborate with Dary Killin (Chief Operation Officer of Native Conifers Carbon Sink Pty. Ltd.) and CSIRO researcher Dr. Moshiur Farazi. This project will award the PhD candidate with generous scholarship of $46000 per year from 2024 to 2027 for 4 years.

  • 20 May 2023 – We will present at the 22nd Australian Rangeland Society Conference, Broome. The presented work is: Lucy Gardner (Presenter), David. Phelps, Jack Koci, Tao Huang, Ben Jarihani, Paul Nelson, Geoff Penton, “Rapid Assessment of Mitchell Grass on Southern Gulf Rangelands using Drone Imagery and Machine Learning.” 

  • 18 May 2023 – Our work: Mohammad Mainul Hasan, Tanveer Saleh, Ali Sophian, M. Azizur Rahman, Tao Huang, and Mohamed Sultan Mohamed Ali, “Experimental Modelling Techniques in Electrical Discharge Machining (EDM): A Review,” is accepted by the International Journal of Advanced Manufacturing Technology.

  • 17 May 2023 - Our recent work, "Kerrison, S.; Jusak, J.; Huang, T. Blockchain-Enabled IoT for Rural Healthcare: Hybrid-Channel Communication with Digital Twinning. Electronics 2023, 12, 2128." has been featured by MDPI today in its newsletter under "Notable Articles" and on its WeChat Media Platform. Today (17 May) is World Telecommunication and Information Society Day, and this year's focus is "Empowering the Least Developed Countries through Information and Communication Technologies."

  • 4 May 2023 – Our work: Steve Kerrison, Jusak Jusak, and Tao Huang, “Blockchain-enabled IoT for Rural Healthcare using Digital Twins,” is now accepted in Electronics MDPI. 

  • 20 April 2023  – Dr Huang co-hosts the seminar: Antenna, Microwave and Electromagnetic Research For Smart Cities -- Prof. Dr.-Ing. Suramate Chalermwisutkul from King Mongkut’s University of Technology North Bangkok.

  • 30 March 2023 – Dr. Huang will lead the JCU robotics team as a mentor to participate in the IEEE Region 10 (Asia Pacific) Robotics Competition.

  • 21 March 2023 – Dr. Huang is awarded 2023 IEEE ComSoc Chapter Funding US $1500 for 2023 membership recruitment and retention efforts within the northern Australia Joint Chapter.

  • 24 March 2023 –  Dr. Huang co-hosted a seminar online, “Present and future spin-on electro-optic waveguide modulator,” with Sections from South Australia, Victorian, New South Wales, Queensland, and Australian Capital Territory. This seminar is presented by Professor Shiyishi Yokoyama (Kyushu Univerity)

  • 8 March 2023 – Congratulations to my student Raiyan Talkhani who has his book chapter: Chapter 1: Deep Learning for Vehicle Safety, published in the book: Deep Learning and Its Applications for Vehicle Networks. Publisher: CRC Press (Taylor & Francis Group). Raiyan worked on this project when he was doing a Master of Engineering (Professional, Internet of Things and Data Engineering) at James Cook University. Congratulations and well done, Raiyan!   • 12 February 2023 – Our work: Majumder Haider, M. K.   • 12 January 2023 – Dr. Huang is invited by Prof. Dr. Andi Adriansyah to join the Editorial Board of SINERGI Journal as an Editor. SINERGI is a peer-reviewed international journal published three times a year in February, June, and October. The journal is published by the Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Mercu Buana.

  • 24 December 2022 -  Dr Huang received the IEEE Outstanding Leadership Award!

  • 27 November 2022 – Our work: Zhengmin Kong, Hui Ouyang, Yiyuan Cao, Tao Huang, Euijoon Ahn, Maoqi Zhang and Huan Liu, “Automated Periodontitis Bone Loss Diagnosis in Panoramic Radiographs Using a Bespoke Two-Stage Detector,” is now accepted by the Computers in Biology and Medicine (IF 6.698).

  • 22 November 2022 -  Dr Huang leads 5 engineering PhD students from Cairns attending the JCU ENG HDR Conferences at Townsville.

  • 18 November 2022 – Dr Huang is now an Associate Editor of the IET Communications Journal.

  • 17 November 2022 – ICC Lab member Umer Zia’s project “IoT-Enabled Smart Farming in Queensland” received an Honorary Mention in the 2022 ComSoc Student Competition "Communications Technology Changing the World." It was ranked among the best 14 projects among the 67 submitted. Projects submitted were evaluated by an international committee made of 54 experts nominated by the Competition Co-Chairs and by ComSoc Technical Committees, covering all areas of the ComSoc scope ( http://www.comsoc.org/communications-technology-changing-world).

  • 16 November 2022 – Dr Huang was invited to submit a review paper to MDPI Energies on energy management of sensing and communications systems in Autonomous Vehicles.

  • 15 November 2022 – Dr Huang was invited to give a technical talk at the 2023 Australian Communications Theory Workshop (AusCTW) will take place in Darwin, NT, on 21-23 June.

  • 2~3 November 2022 – Dr Huang attended the 10th TESS (Centre for Tropical Environmental and Sustainability Science) Annual Science Meeting at Palm Cove, Cairns.

  • 21 October 2022 – Our project application to the NARDHC Seed Funding Scheme 2022 Application NARDHC00005 succeeded (AUD $49,995). Project team: Dr Stephanie Baker, Dr Euijoon Ahn, Dr Tao Huang, Dr Bronson Philippa, Prof Caryn West, Mr Christopher Rouen. Project: Fusion of wearable and environmental sensors for remote monitoring of health and well-being in elderly populations.

  • 21 October 2022 – Our work: Jianan Liu, Liping Bai, Yuxuan Xia, Tao Huang, Bing Zhu, and Qing-long Han, "GNN-PMB: A Simple but Effective Online 3D Multi-Object Tracker without Bells and Whistles," is now accepted by IEEE Transactions on Intelligent Vehicles. Review the work here.

  • 21 October 2022 – Dr Huang gives a guest lecture to students in MA3832 Neural Network and Deep Learning about latent space, contrastive learning, and his current deep learning-related research work.

  • 12 October 2022 – Dr Huang gives a talk in TESS Seminar with the title “Interested in adopting AI in your domain research but lacking labelled data? An introduction to contrastive learning.” The link is here.

  • 6 October 2022 – Dr Huang, together with colleagues in IoT discipline (Stephanie Baker, Carolyn Diedricks, Yang Du, Jeremy Gordon, Bronson Philippa, Eric Wang) received the JCU Citation for Outstanding Contribution to Student Learning for creating an innovative and student-focused curriculum and culture of learning that provides engineering students with job-ready skills in electronics and the Internet of Things.   • 7 Feb. 2022 - Welcome Umer (Ph.D. candidate in wireless communications) arrived at Cairns campus. Umer will be working on intelligent reflective surfaces (IRS).

  • 5 Feb. 2022 - Dr. Huang leads the team won the first prize (USD 3000) in the IEEE ComSoc Internet for All competition for the Asia Pacific (APAC) region.

  • 3 Nov. 2021 - Dr Huang attended the 9th TESS (Centre for Tropical Environmental and Sustainability Science) Annual Science Meeting today at Palm Cove, Cairns. I will talk about the work that I carried out as a part of the Smart Catchment Project at Cairns - An IoT enabled Smart Sensing: Computer-Vision-based Discharge Monitoring in Water Channels. In addition, Dr Huang's student Raiyan Talkhani talked about his thesis work: Deep Learning-based Remote Sensing: Road Extraction in Remote Areas.   • 13 Nov. 2020 - Great news! CRC Longevity has been shortlisted for Stage 2 of CRC Round 22 funding.
